We look forward to meeting with you at our Edwardsville, IL office to understand your situation and your needs, whether treatment for depression, panic, or other problems. We have been trained in the medical science and art of treating a wide variety of problems related to emotions and mental suffering, Psychiatry. In our meeting, you will be listened to attentively and receive a clear description of our findings or diagnosis. You will be given recommendations for the most appropriate plans for treatment. Opening up about your concerns will be greeted with empathy and respect. Future visits are at the same office, or with the option for telepsychiatry.
Psychiatrists are specialists in determining the diagnosis for a condition and then developing the best plan for treatment. If the condition can best be treated with talk therapy, generally we will refer you to a psychotherapist for this purpose. If symptoms are more severe or persistent in depression or similar problems, you may be a candidate for medication, which can often be very beneficial in such circumstances. In many cases, patients benefit from both medication and psychotherapy. Working with you to find the best medications and best dosages for you (when indicated) are the distinct skill of the the psychiatrist.
Psychotherapy is a treatment usually involving talking with a skilled psychotherapist about issues of concern, in order to help resolve negative influences on one's quality of life. This may involve learning to cope with uncontrollable events or with past traumas, with relationship issues, depression, or a variety of other problems. Psychiatry along with psychotherapy by a psychotherapist complement each other well. Generally, the most important factors for success in psychotherapy are a respectful relationship between the patient and the therapist as well as the genuine motivation of the patient to participate fully toward the goals they have set.
With the stranded lifestyle forced upon us with the Corona virus, the advantages of Telepsychiatry have become more obvious:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to offer services via telepsychiatry. It is not a complex process. While we are in our Edwardsville office, you can be in the comfort of your own home. We are using DOXY.ME which is a program with security features specifically for this purpose.
The tele-medicine visit is like an office visit, except by video live on your home computer or laptop (a cell phone may work with the Safari browser also).
THE DAY OF THE VISIT:
- We will contact you the day before or day of the visit to discuss the process , and for insurance/copay information.
- Five (5) or more minutes before your appointment time, you will go to the specific web address below (the correct one for your doctor):
https://doxy.me/drmarkfreeman (for Dr. Freeman)
“Google Searches” for the tele-medicine website will NOT work (you will need to type in one of the specific web addresses (above in brown) into the top bar of your browser).
You will be quickly connected to the "virtual waiting room." You will simply type in your name. The doctor will automatically be notified that you are there, and as soon as he can be available, he will connect and you will see each other for your appointment. At the end of the visit you will discuss follow-up plans just like in the office.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR A TELEPSYCHIATRY VISIT:
A private location
A computer with a camera feature and microphone
Either Firefox or Google Chrome browser on a PC/laptop
OR
Cell phone with Safari browser
An internet connection capable of streaming video
Please be aware that this is a new technology for us and there is always the possibility of a glitch. We will work it out. So far it has been very reliable. The cost of a telepsychiatry appointment is usually the same as for a regular office visit.
